More Information:
The Temple Hill Choir has presented over 50 performances around the San Francisco Bay Area over the past 14 years. Over 35,000 people have attended over that time. All performances have been free and open to the public as the Choir’s gift at Easter. The performance features 13 soloists that represent those who knew Jesus well or who could have been part of his ministry. No one portrays Jesus Christ. Instead, Christ is represented by the cello soloist and words shared by the narrators and the choir.
The Lamb of God oratorio is approximately 70 minutes long with no intermission. The music describes the ministry of Christ, especially the final week of his life from the Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday to his encounter with Pilate, his crucifixion, and resurrection. Soloists depicting his disciples and detractors describe how they see Christ, including Martha, Mary, Peter, John, Thomas, Pilate, and Mary Magdalene. Lamb of God has been presented by choirs all over the world at Easter. Rob Gardner’s master work was also shared with the world in a concert film during the global pandemic in 2021. The album is available for purchase on Rob Gardner’s website, spiremusic.org.
Each performance of Lamb of God over the years has featured one or more service organizations invited to share with the audience what community services they provide. This allows audience members to learn about opportunities to support their community in the future through donations or personal service. Previous community service organizations have included the American Red Cross, Catholic Refugee Services, Safe CarPark, Catholic Charities and others. The 2025 performances will include short presentations by the Salvation Army Ray Kroc Center and other community service organizations.
Alan Chipman has been the Conductor for Lamb of God performances in the Bay Area over the past 14 years. Mr. Chipman founded the Temple Hill Choir in 1999, assisted by Jennifer Brown, Associate Director of the Choir. The Temple Hill Choir is a non-profit organization, whose members have presented over 250 concerts around the Bay Area over the past 26 years. All of these concerts are presented free and open to the public. Larry Petersen has been the Choir’s pianist for the past 25 years. Amy Strong is another associate director of the Choir, who will assist in directing parts of the oratorio.
