The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints welcomes all guests. Every chapel holds a proud, “Visitors Welcome,” sign at the very entrance. And we mean it! Most chapels have an assigned greeter to welcome any new friends and help you feel comfortable. The Oakland chapels are open to every man and woman alike.
Within the Oakland Area, there are currently 8 different congregations that meet, held in 6 different languages. Visitors are welcome to join any of these groups.

Missionaries choose to give service to the Church to help invite others to participate. They are often young adults ages 18-30 from all over the world. They serve for the space of 18-24 months and are assigned to an area in which they serve others and invite them to come to learn more about Christ.
Local missionaries in your area can let you know the time and location of local church services. In addition, they can explain what happens during church and how you can participate.

Though Latter-Day Saints are very welcoming in church services and activities, only members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are allowed into the majestic temples.
Due to the sacredness of what takes place inside, the Oakland Temple is only open to those who have made certain promises with God. To a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the temples are the holiest place on Earth and thus need to be protected.
