Visitors’ Center

We are excited to announce the reopening of the Visitors’ Center adjacent to the temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after closure due to COVID-19. It will be open to the public beginning June 19, 2021. In the Visitors’ Center, you can enjoy several interactive displays, videos, and guided tours by the missionaries in English, Spanish, or Chinese. Begin your tour at the feet of the beautiful statue of the resurrected Christ, which invites you to come to Him.

In addition to the Visitors’ Center, enjoy the thousands of seasonal flowers and fountains in front of the temple. Climb the stairs to the peaceful rooftop gardens, where you can see the bay from the Richmond Bridge to the Dumbarton Bridge. Sit quietly and feel the stillness of the view from high above the bustle of the streets.

Where: 4766 Lincoln Avenue, Oakland, CA 94602

Oakland Family Search Library

The Oakland Family Search Library will reopen on June 15. At present, visits will be by appointment only. Appointments can be made by calling the library at 510-531-3905 or by email at
[email protected]. We are grateful that many of our staff have returned to serve once again.

Initial hours of operation:
Tuesday 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Wednesday and Thursday 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM
Friday and Saturday 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

The Family History Center library staff has been trained in the protocols required to reopen. They are taking precautions to make sure no one is exposed to COVID-19 while in the library. Masks and social distancing will be required at all times for visitors and staff. The staff will clean and disinfect the computers after each use.

The staff is also prepared to meet with patrons via Zoom, which has been very successful over the past several months.

You can follow the progress of the library’s reopening by going to the website:
