The Temple Hill Symphony invites music-lovers worldwide to attend a virtual performance of its 36th annual Messiah sing-along on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. Pacific Time.

The Messiah is a three-part oratorio for orchestra and chorus that tells the story of Christ. Part I describes the prophecies of Christ’s birth from the Old Testament. Part II goes on to tell the story of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. Part III depicts the conquest of sin and concludes The Messiah with a joyous acclamation of Christ and eternal life.

This beloved work by George Frideric Handel premiered in Dublin in 1742. Although it is now known as a Christmas piece, the work was originally performed around Easter. Over time, as audiences and musicians alike came to appreciate the work’s festive exuberance, it became a Christmas staple. Now, millions of people globally gather each year to sing along to The Messiah in a celebration of the Christmas season.

The Messiah was originally performed in support of local charities including a hospital, a prison, and an orphanage. Today The Messiah continues to serve and uplift all who hear and participate in it, bringing a message of joy and hope to the world.
