The Catholic Church records in Portugal, the Azores, Madeira and Brazil are excellent, but frequently difficult to read and interpret. Further confusing for Portuguese researchers is the unique naming traditions in Portuguese-speaking countries, where surnames are seemingly randomly assigned. This session will be facilitated by Ralph Severson, one the Center’s volunteer staff members. He has been researching these records for many years and enjoys helping others with their research.
